Pondok Umah Anyar – Traditional Balinese Cooking Class

Experience the authenticity of Balinese traditions through the Pondok Umah Anyar Cooking Class, a cooking experience that emphasizes the cultural and traditional values of Bali. Held in our private family home, this class offers a rare opportunity to learn traditional Balinese recipes that have been carefully preserved and passed down through generations.

We invite you to step into our family home, a Balinese Pondok that harmoniously blends modern and traditional culture. In this warm and tradition-filled setting, you will gain a deeper understanding of everyday life in Bali.

Upon arrival, you will be warmly welcomed and introduced to the layout of a Balinese house. Each building within the house has a specific meaning and function, following the principles of Asta Kosala Kosali, the symbolic traditional Balinese architectural philosophy. Before cooking, you will create Canang Sari, daily offerings that are a core part of Bali’s spiritual life, and take part in a prayer session at our family temple to honor ancestral traditions.

Guided by experienced instructors, you will learn authentic Balinese recipes, utilizing traditional cooking techniques and fresh ingredients from the local market. These recipes not only showcase the rich flavors of Bali but also represent a deeply valued cultural heritage.

After cooking, you will be introduced to Balinese dining customs, including Mebanten Saiban, a small offering ritual performed before meals to express gratitude to nature and the deities. Every step of this class is designed to immerse you in the profound cultural meanings behind Balinese culinary practices.

The experience begins with a visit to the local market to select the freshest organic ingredients. The cooking process stays true to tradition, using pure spring water sourced from Bali’s pristine mountain springs, reinforcing the values we uphold.

We invite you to experience this meaningful journey of traditional Balinese cooking at Pondok Umah Anyar, a place where Balinese family hospitality meets authentic culinary heritage, creating memories and recipes that will stay with you forever.
